Where do you keep your brooms, mops and other cleaning things? I have a utility cabinet in my pantry wall with an IKEA shelf pullout. The pull-out feature makes it easy to get all the things in the back. Of course I added a couple of my own little hacks to organize all my Norwex (and some other) cleaning supplies. Items needed in the kitchen or for regular household cleaning are kept in this cabinet. I keep clothing related and back up cleaning supplies in my laundry room. The linen closet beside the bathroom stores cleaning items for the bathroom and upper floor.
Utility Cabinet Organizing Tip...Hooks and things...
At the front of the utility cabinet top basket are two hooks for a mop or broom, but I installed two little clips for my regular broom and micro fibre sweeper on the opposite inside wall. Another little hack I did was to add a bunch of little S hooks which I bought at a dollar store. These hooks allow me to hang all my Norwex cloths, mop/sweeper pads and duster wand. Enviro cloths, window cloths and stainless steel cloths are hung here.
Utility Cabinet shelves and "Baskets"...
This is a very versatile unit as extra shelves can be purchased and the shelf heights can be adjusted.I keep my stainless steel cleaners, a sponge pad and a couple of scrub brushes in the top “basket”. (The stainless steel cleaners will probably not be replaced when they are used up.) The lower shelves are perfect for a pail, dust pan and brush, and a bin for extra floor pads that aren’t Norwex. Since I hardly ever used my steam mop, I decided to sell it and was able to declutter an extra mop pad.
Other tips to organize your utility cabinet...
Whether you have a pull out system like this or not, you can optimize the space you have. Allows edit the items you do not use before organizing.
- Keep like things together as much as possible so you won’t have to go looking all over to find them. (Or forget you have them and then go and buy more.)
- Accessibility matters so keep things as close to where they will be used as possible.
- Utilize bins and baskets for smaller items because it will be easier to find them, retrieve them and keep it tidy.
- Various hooks & clips can be used to hang things. ie. Broom clips, Command hooks, “S” hooks. Keeping things off the floor looks tidier and makes it easier to keep the floor clean.
