Well 2020 didn’t turn out the way I planned it, and probably not for anyone else too. Looking back, the most prominent theme has been to make your home your safe place, your haven. Many people are working from home and children have been home schooled. Vacations away have been cancelled and if you did get time off, it was a stay-cation. I know many people have been making improvements on their back yards, and swimming pool sales have been up.

Home office haven....

I bought a more comfortable office chair since posting IKEA Built-In Office Organization 2020. The grey velvet and studs also go well with my sofa.

Front Porch transformation

After the initial lockdown anyone working in the trades were in demand and building supplies were in short supply. Prices also went up for some things and there were delays…A six-month renovation turned into ten for me. You can see my century home transformation here:

I was fortunate to still be working full-time, despite the uncomfortable measures put in place for the pandemic.(ie. Masks that limited water intake, made having a hot flash unbearable, and caused difficulty breathing during a 12 hour shift.)

My Airbnb business got a slow start but ultimately did well when people were allowed to travel (a little) again. Fortunately I had a regular guest for several months that had come out of retirement to help the local hospital. I was already anal about cleaning but that got amped-up too with sanitizing of all contact points.

No more hedge.

Not much changed to my Church Hill Haven guest suites, but #2 got a new patio loveseat and table so the guests could enjoy some of the outdoor area. The slow season allowed me to get a few repairs done. The overgrown hedge that was crowding the walkway to guest suite #1 was also removed.

Looking forward to 2021...

I plan on a few more projects to continue making my home a haven. After living here for over six years I am finally going to makeover the bedrooms, hallways and laundry room (in progress now). Every year I say I am going to get completely organized. Maybe this will be the year?

What do you have planned to make your home a haven this year?
