Whether you are planning one project or several it can make it easier if you have all the details organized in one place.
Reviewing Past Plans...declutter and archive...
As with all organizing projects, I began with a review of past projects and decluttered. Any papers, brochures that I no longer need were discarded. My home kitchen reno was finally completed so I was able to move those plans to my archive files. How to set up your home project binder...
As part of my new years’ ritual I make a master list of all home projects, big and small that I want to accomplish during the year. From minor repairs to full-scale remodeling projects. In the binder I use dividers to separate the categories by location – kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, exterior, etc. For each section I have an inspiration page, a main overview , a detailed to do page and a floor plan, if applicable. I also find pockets and cases helpful for putting brochures, paint, fabric and other swatches.
List of supplies you will need for your home project binder...
Gather items to set up your binder.
- A binder, preferably with pockets, but it doesn’t have to.
- Plastic page protectors.
- Dividers for different sections.
- A few pocket dividers or plastic “envelopes” with binder holes.
- Pencil case with binder holes.
- Printable pages for inspiration board, main details, to do lists and floor plan.
- Grid or scale ruler.

My current project...my guest suite kitchen...budget...
In December I started to work on a total kitchen renovation for my Airbnb guest suite #2. Unfortunately, there is a supply problem with IKEA cabinets now and I am still waiting for a couple of pieces. (Fortunately I’m not usually busy with guests during winter.) As always, I am trying to stick to my budget but that is challenging with the continued rise in prices. Keep your budget in mind when planning your projects and be prepared to wait until you can afford the time and money.
