I didn’t think the day would ever come when I could say the kitchen was finally done, but it is here! If you have followed my blog you will know that I have been renovating it in stages. The big thing I was waiting to do was the floor and then I could finish off the kickboards and trim and the peninsula.

I actually didn’t mind the kitchen tiles when I moved in and had thought to save them. Phase one of my kitchen reno (the pantry wall) showed me that that would not be possible and they got further damaged with phase two and three. I had considered putting hardwood in the kitchen as well because having the same flooring as the adjacent rooms would make the space look bigger. Fortunately, I was forced to wait to get the floor done because I realized that it got quite cold there in the winter. So I changed my mind again and decided heated floors would be the way to go.

New in-floor heating and tiles...

The first order of business was to put up plastic and remove the old tiles. When the old ceramic tiles came up there were a couple layers of linoleum and sub-flooring.

The electrician came to install the wires for the thermostat and floor heating. I got my in-floor heat system from Wye River Flooring Co. When the sub floor was ready the  mat for the heating wires was laid and the wires installed. After the inspection, the tiles were laid and grouted.

Peninsula, kick boards and trim done...

With the floor finally finished I was able to get the kick boards put on and the trim work done. Some bead board paneling and trim finished off the peninsula after the hardwood flooring was done in the dining room. And then I finally got to paint it!
