Packing in a Knapsack for a Ten Day Trip

For my vacation to Florida & the Bahamas, I packed in a knapsack for a ten-day trip. On my last trip, to British Columbia, I packed with a small carry-on suitcase and knapsack. Although that worked out well, I thought I would challenge myself to go more minimal. It is a lot easier to get around on buses and trains without lugging a suitcase.
My "newish" Tracker knapsack...
I bought a new Tracker knapsack, from Bentley, in 2020 for a trip I intended to take. We all know what happened then, fortunately, before I bought the plane tickets.
Comparing my two newest knapsacks...
On my last trip I took my Loveook knapsack which had numerous pockets and compartments, opening from the top. It had padded pockets for a laptop or tablet and had a charger cord outlet for my phone, although I never used it. The measurements for the Loveook are 16″ x 12″ x 7.5″ which is with-in the guideline for the personal bag.
My Tracker knapsack opens up like a little suitcase, but it also has a padded area for a laptop. It is a little larger than the Loveook, too. The Tracker knapsack is approximately 18″ x 12″ x 7″ and may not be with-in the guidelines for a personal bag on some airlines. You can find a similar one here.
Choosing your knapsack...
Obviously, when choosing a knapsack you will have to assess what you need it for. If you are going to be doing a lot of walking you will want one that is comfortable to carry. If you have back problems this may not be the best option for you. Do you need to take a laptop or tablet? How minimal do you plan to go? What are your airline’s size requirements for carry-on and personal baggage? Does it have a strap to slip over a suitcase handle when you don’t want it on your back?
Using packing cubes to compress clothes...
I bought this set of packing cubes from the Dollarama a few years ago. For my trip I just used the middle one for my main clothes. I used another small nylon case for my swimsuit, socks and underthings.
Minimizing what to pack...
They always say that you never regret taking less. Plan to do a little laundry, even if you just handwash a few things in the sink. Take items that are quick to dry.
A few extra items I packed...
I was going to see my cousin that I hadn’t seen in forty-five years and I wanted to give her a little surprise. She had given me her “Sindy’s little sister Patch” doll with all her clothes, and I thought she might like it back to give to her kids or grandkids someday. We all had a little chuckle about it and it was great to see her again and meet her family.
