This year I began to get my guest suite #2 bathroom refreshed, starting with some subtle repairs and maintenance.

Bathroom Refresh Part One...

You can’t see it, but the original fan was so noisy it sounded like an airplane upstairs when it was on. I looked into getting a new one but all the new ones required different venting. The ceiling would have had to be ripped open and then be redone. Even though the replacement part was as expensive as a good new fan, I saved a ton on labour and I also had the electrician put a timer switch on it.

I also had the electrician move the switch and plug over a little so I could hang a bigger mirror over the sink.  Of course, I had to touch up the wall paint too. The vanity light fixture was also painted black.

Bathroom Refresh Part T.wo..

Anyone who knows anything about doing renos, even minor ones, will know that one thing will lead to another. That’s exactly what I tried to avoid here. I knew I had to replace the sink-countertop and faucet but I didn’t want to change the whole vanity because that would have created more work for the tiler when he came to fix the floor. I found a new sink-countertop on an online auction and a faucet from the local building supply store.

I also found this bathroom cabinet with a mini “barn ” door on the online auction. Unfortunately it had a little damage on the back corner, but I was able to hide it.

Tile Time Part Three...

Unfortunately some of the tiles had cracked or got chipped and I didn’t have any more of the existing tiles. I figured it would be easier to go over the existing floor tiles but we still had to make the floor level  first. The faux marble tiles were very affordable from Home Depot.

Painting Wall Tiles - Bathroom Refresh Part Four...

The last step in this bathroom refresh was to paint the wall tiles. Prep work is key in all paint jobs. To paint the tiles took a little more work. First they had to be lightly sanded and then cleaned thoroughly with TSP. Primed with a good primer (I used Cover Stain). And then finally painted with a semi-gloss white paint. NO MORE BEIGE!
