After doing his sibling’s back-to-school room resets, we finally got to my oldest grandson’s room. As a pre-teen young man, he is all about gaming and basketball. (He is a huge Raptor’s fan.)

Room Reset Step One...Decluttering of course...

It always looks worse before it gets better. The decluttering had already been well under way when I showed up. My daughter-in-law had already gone through most of Wyatt’s clothes with him and pulled out items that were too small for him. He had also already started going through his school supplies to fill his knapsack. A few of his toys were kept in the toy box, that had sentimental value to him.

After some persuading, he allowed us to get rid of the broken wicker chair. We replaced the broken chair with an ottoman so he would still have something to put his feet up on. (It didn’t go with the masculine vibe anyway.)

The cat tower was also removed, at least temporarily. We will have to wait and see if it will return someday.

The mattress got steam cleaned and I tried to get as many of the pills removed as possible. (I had to come back with my lint remover, but it was a tedious job.) Everything was wiped down, the floors were mopped and the windows washed.

Room Reset - Special requests...

The main thing that my grandson requested for his new room reset was a place to display his shoes. These shelves, that I had in my storage, were the perfect size for them. We had initially tried putting the shoes in the cubbies in the closet, but they were too big!

On the top shelf are his album, phone speaker and ceramic skull that he made himself. There is even room for a couple more pairs of shoes on the shelves.

The mirror for his new dresser wasn’t attached and wouldn’t fit in the alcove where it was. Since he said he definitely wanted the mirror, the decision to move the dresser was easy. We reattached the mirror and moved the dresser to the far corner.

Closet Reset...

With the addition of a dresser, the closet now only holds some tops and jackets or sets. Grey hangers hold the tops on the left side and white hangers for the jackets on the right. The t-shirts are also colour-coded from lights to darks and caps are displayed in the cube shelves.

Gaming centre...

The pegboard from IKEA holds all the gaming accessories. A CD holder, holds CDs, DVDs and games and a small bin holds the TV remote and other little things. My grandson’s “W” and a couple of sentimental things are displayed on the shelf.

Organizing the stuff...

We moved the toy box beside the bed because the night stands wouldn’t fit. As I previously mentioned, some of Wyatt’s sentimental toys were kept in his toy box. A little memory box with a couple of his baby things were also placed here. As he was not needing to access these items regularly, it made a good nightstand.

The two night stands with drawers were placed at the end of the bed. Art, school supplies and small miscellaneous items found homes here.

Room Reset Art & Decor...

With the furniture rearranged, and homes found for all the stuff, we finally hung the artwork. There were a few Raptors pictures and a bag, a couple of posters and a couple of name signs. I found a blue lamp and a multi-colored shade at Value Village to go beside his bed. It was too short so I used a designer’s trick by putting it on a box to raise it up. A black faux leather cushion was also added to the bed.

I don’t know how long the kids’ rooms will remain tidy, but at least they will start the new school year with a clean slate.
