Get Organized with a Parent School Binder

With kids going back to school, a parent school binder can help you stay organized. When my boys were growing up they were notorious for, at the last minute, springing something on me. Permission forms needing to be signed, money needed for pizza day or supplies needed for a special project. I’ve made some free printables that you can use (link down below.)

Supplies needed for your organized school binder...

A 1″ binder, in the colour of your choice, is the first item you will need. If you have several kids you might want a thicker one.

For each child you will need:

  • Cover profile page.
  • Three-hole pocket folder.
  • Binder pouch.

In general:

  • A monthly calendar page for each month of school.
  • Plastic page protectors.
  • Labels
  • 3-hole punch *optional

Keep track of school schedules, projects,etc...

Some schools give copies of their own calendars to show professional development days and other holidays. If not, you can add those days to your master calendar. You can also keep track of sick days, and pizza days.  Deadlines for fund raisers, picture days, or anything else that comes up that you feel is pertinent as a parent.

Child Profile cover page...

This is basically the same page that can be used in an emergency binder. Have all the main information in one place. I put this in a plastic page protector. Other health information, such as immunization records, could be slipped in behind it or put in a separate protector.

Customize your school binder to your needs...

For the binder I made for my grandchildren, I found some pocket folders that had their favorite colours and themes. The Dollar Tree didn’t have one with basketball or game controls for my oldest grandson, but the shark one had the blue he liked in his room.. The binder pouches were also colour coordinated. I know it wasn’t really necessary to pick the folders and colours the kids, would like because it is for the parents. You can choose whatever colour scheme or patterns that appeal to you.

Pocket folders...

There is a pocket folder for each child. One side is for putting forms to be signed and the other for classroom information.

"Zippered" pouches for money, etc.

Binder pouches...

Each child also has a binder pouch to hold money for school trips, lunches or other items. Book orders, fundraising and picture orders can also go here, if not paid online.

Back to school section...

At the back of the binder is a section for school information. School contacts and log-in passwords for online access. Registration papers, rules and guidelines, shopping list of supplies needed, etc.

When setting up your binder, add or delete sections, pouches or pages as required. Try it for a while and tweak it to meet your own needs. Enjoy a less-stressful school year by being as organized as you can.
