Do you have a vision for how you would like this year to go for you? Whether you make New Year’s Resolutions or sit down and write out your goals for the year, having a clear vision of what you want can help. I love this time of year. It is a time of new beginnings, a chance to reset and start over. If things didn’t go quite the way you wanted them to last year or you have got stuck in a rut, it’s time to start up that dream machine and get excited about the possibilities. The idea of making a vision board isn’t a new one, but I thought I would make one this year and see how it goes.

Before you can go forward, you need to reflect on the past. Be grateful for what you have, even if you’ve gone through struggles and loss. It’s easy to get caught up in our busy lives and forget how far we have come from the experiences we’ve had and the lessons we’ve learned. When you are clear on how you feel right now and how you want to feel, you are ready to get started.

Do a Brain Dump of Ideas you want to put on your vision board...

Take a piece of paper or a page in a notebook and start putting all your ideas down. What goals do you have for all the different areas in your life?

  • Personal Growth
  • Relationships
  • Health
  • Work or Career
  • Home
  • Financial
  • etc.
Words for year

Pick a word (or motto) for the year for your vision board...

There are so many positive words and phrases that can help you hone in on what is important to you. A very popular word I have seen many people use is “Gratitude”. I think we should all practice being grateful, but there may be something else that you need to focus on as well.

This year I chose the word “Joyful” to remind me to feel more joy. Like many people, I get so busy working and doing day-to-day stuff that I forget about having fun. I’m not unhappy, but I’m not excited to get up every morning and do the same old things. However, I think I found the perfect quote for me. “Create the life that you can’t wait to wake up to.”

If you are looking for inspirational words or phrases, Google and Pinterest are great sources to look. What words and phrases resonate with you?

Supplies for vision board

Making a physical vision board...

If you want to make a physical vision board you will need to gather your supplies.

  • Bristol or foam board or a bulletin board
  • Glue or push pins
  • Scissors
  • Pictures – cut from magazines or download from internet.
  • Markers or pens.

Cut out images that represent what you want in your  life. Arrange them in a way that is appealing to you and attach them to the board. Keep your board in a place where you will see it every day. Maybe your office, closet or other area that will still be private for you.

Digital vision boards for phone or computer screen...

This year I decided to make digital boards for my phone and laptop because I see them multiple times a day. It was also very easy to do.

First, I found images and phrases that appealed to me and represented some of my goals. As I already mentioned, Google and Pinterest were great places to find these. I also used some of my own photos. It is very easy to put together on a free graphic design program like Canva. When finished you can just download them to your devices and set as background.

What are you going to create for your life this year?
